17km Military Fibre Resilience Project
The problem
A high-profile military client required a fully resilient fibre optic connection between two critical sites located 17km apart. Their existing link presented a single point of failure, creating unacceptable operational risk. To safeguard continuity of service, they commissioned MPPS to design and deliver a new, diverse fibre route that would operate independently of the current infrastructure.
The project carried several key constraints. The new route had to be 100% diverse from the existing fibre to eliminate shared risk, remain fully accessible for future maintenance and expansion, and avoid all SSSI (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) along the corridor. These requirements demanded meticulous planning, multiagency coordination, and a robust understanding of environmental and regulatory frameworks.
The solution
MPPS undertook a comprehensive route engineering exercise, mapping viable corridors and engaging with all relevant landowners, local authorities, and government bodies with jurisdiction over the land. Our team negotiated easements, secured access agreements, and coordinated with highways departments and environmental agencies to obtain mandatory road closures and ensure full compliance with environmental protections.
A detailed programme of works was developed, factoring in agricultural cycles, wildlife considerations, and seasonal constraints to minimise disruption. The final design incorporated 75 manholes and 17km of communications ducting, providing a resilient and maintainable infrastructure corridor between the two military sites.
Once civil works were complete, the fibre optic cable was installed, terminated, and rigorously tested to defence sector standards. The client now benefits from a fully diverse, high-resilience fibre route that significantly strengthens their operational continuity and reduces critical infrastructure risk.

Nationwide Digital Signage Upgrade
The problem
Pioneer Digital Solutions Ltd required a nationwide upgrade of their roadside advertising estate, replacing traditional 48sheet and 96sheet paper boards with modern digital signage. Each installation presented unique engineering challenges due to varying ground conditions, exposure to high wind loads, and the large physical footprint of the new digital structures.
Most sites were positioned on busy highway junctions or railway embankments, creating significant logistical and safety considerations. Installation windows were tightly controlled by landowners, tenants, Highways authorities, Network Rail, and other stakeholders, all of whom imposed strict outage periods and demanding timelines.
The solution
MPPS worked collaboratively across all sites, adapting our approach to suit the specific ground conditions, access constraints, and environmental factors at each location. Our team dismantled and responsibly disposed of the existing advertising boards before constructing bespoke reinforced concrete bases designed to accommodate the new digital signage structures.
Each foundation incorporated precision-engineered bolt cages tailored to the size and the wind load requirements of the digital units. Through careful planning, stakeholder coordination, and disciplined execution, we delivered the full programme of digital upgrades on time and to the highest professional standards.
